Is anybody seriously looking for very much higher ACT, SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, & AP scores in San Francisco or nearby?
Schools overweigh the ACT or SAT Reasoning Test or SAT simply because other measures, like GPA, moral character, and school competitiveness, are tricky to compare. Overweighting the ACT and SAT Reasoning Test means students with good grades and from good high schools must protect them by having solid ACT or SAT Reasoning Test scores in San Francisco or nearby. Overweighting the ACT or SAT Reasoning Test or SAT provides a great opportunity to students who don’t have strong grades, or are in less highly-regarded schools.
The ACT or SAT is a superb standard to aid in college admission decisions, given disparities in high school quality in addition to students’ personal choice of courses in the San Francisco area. The ACT and SAT Reasoning Test are decent tests of aptitudes and know-how. They are absolutely not great predictors of success subsequent to college and they are dubious predictors of success in college.
Considering competitive four-year colleges have made them a major factor in their admissions decisions and merit scholarship awards, it makes sense for students in the San Francisco area seeking admissions at competitive colleges to study for the ACT and/or SAT.
The ACT or SAT can be coachable. Everyone improves with SAT or ACT prep. The only issue is the amount of improvement. The ACT or SAT or SAT Reasoning Test is not a way of measuring fixed information, skills, or even “intelligence”. (Ask our many students who definitely have raised their own scores up to 850 points after a few months of SAT preparation.)
I wonder whether anybody sincerely seeks outstanding ACT, SAT Reasoning Test, & SAT Subject Tests scores in the San Francisco area?
